OVERVIEW

Yanbian University (1946韦德网站) is located in Yanji City, the capital of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture in Jilin Province. It is also known as the “Land of Education” and is a national "double-top quality" constructed university. It is China’s “211 project" focus on the construction of universities and the western development. The National Civil Affairs Commission, the Jilin Provincial People's Government and the Ministry of Education jointly focus on supporting the construction of universities.

The University was founded in 1949 and was one of the earliest universities established by the Communist Party of China in ethnic minority areas. The University has wide range of disciplines covering several domains. It also has 20 Colleges, 75 Undergraduate Majors; 8 First-level Authorized Doctoral Degree Programs and 1 Second-level Authorized Doctoral Degree Program ; 31 First-level Authorized Master's Degree Program and 5 Second-level Authorized Disciplines; 18 Master's Degree authorization points, 4 Post-Doctoral Research Mobility Stations and 1 Post-Doctoral Research station. In 2017, the Foreign Chinese Institute of literature was selected as the national "double-top quality" construction discipline. Also, Yanbian University was recognized as one of the national key disciplines. The University was 4th rank colleges and universities of "top priority" and rank 12 in provincial advantages of key construction academic disciplines in Jilin Province. In the construction of high-level academic Programs of Colleges and Universities of Jilin Province in "13th Five-Year Plan” Yanbian University was approved and has been awarded as first-class academic discipline and with 15 emerging interdisciplinary subjects.

Faculty Members have strong academic discipline and reasonable echelon; it currently has 2,222 faculty members including 1,441 full-time teachers, 723 full-time teachers with Doctoral Degree, 612 with a Master's Degree and 790 have Deputy Senior Titles . More than 100 well-known expert teachers, emeritus professor, adjunct professor and visiting professor locally and abroad including Dr. Yang Zhenning were employed as honorary professors.

The University recruits from 31 Provinces, Municipalities, and Autonomous regions. Now it has 24,257 full-time students that include 4,201 Doctoral and Master's students, 18,823 undergraduates, 1,233 specialized major students and 428 International students from 29 countries. There are 32 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education of Changbai Mountain Biological Resources, Functional Ministry of Education's Humanities and Social Sciences Key Research Base - North Korea and Korea Research Center, and all levels of scientific research institutions actively build the Tumen River Forum and Changbai Mountain Forum for two major international academic forum brands. In the past three years, it has undertaken the National Natural Science Foundation Project, the Major Project of the National Social Science Fund, the Major Project of Philosophy and Social Science Research of the Ministry of Education, the Key Project of the National Social Science Fund, there was 195 projects of the National Social Science Fund, 372 projects at the provincial and departmental levels, and 28 international cooperation projects. There was 6311 academic papers published, of which 1,077 are the three major international scientific and technological literature search papers (SCI, EI, ISTP), 310 papers in SSCI, A-HCI, CSSCI journals, 66 scientific research awards and 91 patents.

The University adheres to its internationalization strategy and has established cooperation and exchange relationships with 467 institutions and research institutions or international academic organizations in 29 countries and 2 regions (Hong Kong, Taiwan). We have steadily developed the education of international students and obtained the qualification of "Chinese Government Scholarships for International Students in China" of the Ministry of Education. We strengthened the construction of the "Chinese Education Base of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council" and set up the Yanbian University Center of the Northeast Chinese International Promotion Base and the Confucius Institute at Zhongbei University in Korea. It has established inter-university relations with the Russian Far East University, Meiji University of Japan, Seoul University in Korea, Kim Il Sung Comprehensive University of North Korea, Stockholm University in Sweden, University of Pittsburgh and other world-renowned universities, and has exchanged nearly a thousand experts and scholars each year.

Class Setting

Class LV 1: For beginners with no foundation of Chinese.

Class LV 2: For applicants who have learned basic Chinese sentence patterns and 800 commonly used words, or have achieved HSK Level 2.

Class LV 3: For applicants who have learned basic Chinese grammars and 1500 commonly used words, or have achieved HSK Level 3.

Class LV 4: For applicants with intermediate level of chinese or HSK level

EXCHANGE PROGRAM

According to the exchange agreement signed between Yanbian University and foreign universities, students can study Chinese at our school or take Bachelor Degree courses as required.The maximum duration of exchangeprogram is usually one academic year.

CHINESE GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP

Application for Chinese Government Scholarship of Yanbian University, 2025

I. SUPPORTING CATEGORIES AND APPLICATION DEADLINE

1. Full time postgraduate, and PhD students（study length 3-4 years).

2. Deadline: March 1st, 2025

II. ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible, an applicant must:

1. Be a citizen of a country other than the People's Republic of China, and be in good health both mentally and physically.

2. Be a Bachelor’s degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for Master’s programs.

3. Be a Master’s degree holder under the age of 40 when applying for doctoral programs.

4. Have acquired the HSK Level 4 or above when applying for Chinese-taught master’s or doctoral programs.

Ⅲ. SCHOLARSHIP COVERAGE

1. Tuition fees, application fee, and on-campus accommodation fee(no family rooms) .

2. Monthly stipend:

Master’s degree students: CNY 3,000 Yuan per month

Doctoral degree students: CNY 3,500 Yuan per month

3. Comprehensive Medical Insurance for International Students in China.

Ⅳ. APPLICATION PROCESS

1. visit https://www.campuschina.org and click “Scholarship Application for Students”, register an account for application.

2. Complete online application and upload all the required documents (Pre-admission is not required at this step).

3. Please select Program Category “Type B”, input Agency Number 10184 for Yanbian University.

4. Applicants who pass our evaluation will receive a Pre-Admission Letter issued by our university.

5. Upload Pre-Admission Letter to your online application to complete application.

6. Yanbian University will submit the recommended list to CSC.

7. Yanbian University will notice winners of CSC scholarship the results and these winners will receive a new official ADMISSION NOTICE and visa application documents from us directly.

V. APPLICATION DOCUMENTS

Log in your account at https://www.campuschina.org, finish online appication form and upload the following required documents. All application documents should be in Chinese or English. If not, please submit notarized Chinese or English translations.

1. Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship. Application will not be accepted without online application.

2. Notarized highest diploma.

3. Expected graduation certificate. Prospective diploma winners must submit official proof of student status by their current school proving expected date of receiving degree no later than July 30, 2025. Submit notarized diploma when register at school. Fail to receive diploma in time as required will cause disqualification of the scholarship

4. Notarized academic transcripts (from the undergraduate program onwards): copies of academic records from first to last semester during the undergraduate, graduate(if any), and doctoral programs(if any) shall be provided. Transcripts shall be issued and sealed by the attending university’s academic affairs office, graduate school or student management department.

5. HSK certificate: Valid HSK Level 4 or above certificate.

6. A Study Plan or Research Proposal. A study plan written in Chinese or English shall contain more than 1000 words; the proposal of a doctoral student shall be signed by the applicant’s Chinese supervisor.

7. Recommendation letters: two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors. These letters shall describe the applicant’s objectives of learning in China, comprehensive abilities, and evaluation of future growth.

8. Example of art. Applicants for music, fine art or design studies are requested to submit their own works through “example of art other supporting documents”in the system. Applicants could also provide such materials to the applied universities directly in other ways.

9. Foreigner Physical Examination Form completed in English (the original copy should be kept by the applicant). The form is designed by the Chinese quarantine authority and can be obtained from the dispatching authority. The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months.

10. Copy of Passport: Applicant shall submit a clear scanned copy of the information page of his/her ordinary passport with validity later than September, 2025. If the validity of the current passport does not meet the requirement, please apply for a new passport before submitting the application.

11. Notarized Non-criminal record report issued by the local public security authority, usually issued within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application.

Reminder: uploaded supporting documents must be clear, authentic and valid. Applicants are recommended to use a professional device to scan the relevant documents. Applicant shall bear the consequences caused by unclear or unidentifiable uploaded materials.

VI. REMINDER

1. All application documents should be in Chinese or English. If not, please submit notarized Chinese or English translations.

2. Please take all original hard copies of application documents when register at school. Admission will be canceled if students can not pass qualification evaluation and physical examination when register at school.

3. Incomplete application documents will not be accepted. All documents will not be returned.

4. Admitted applicants can not change major, study length or study category. Admitted applicants must register at university within the registration period prescribed by our university. If admitted applicants fail to register in time without permission, their scholarship will be automatically canceled.

5.All candidates shall not receive more than two scholarships at same time supported by Chinese government at all levels or universities,or scholarship will be canceled once founded and received stipends must be returned. For those who deliberately conceal scholarship information, in addition to disqualification of the scholarship, they will not be allowed to apply Chinese government scholarship within three years.

6. Our university doesn't entrust any individual or intermediary agent to process Chinese Government Scholarship applications. The whole application and evaluation process is free.

INTERNATIONAL CHINESE LANGUAGE TEACHERS SCHOLARSHIP

To meet the growing international demand for Chinese language teachers, facilitate Chinese language education around the world, and support the professional development of Chinese language teachers, the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) has established the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship (hereinafter referred to as the Scholarship) for eligible Chinese language teachers outside of China.Yanbian University (YBU) welcomes all related institutions to recommend outstanding students and in-service Chinese language teachers to further their Chinese studies at YBU.

I. ELIGIBILITY

1. Be a Non-Chinese citizen;

2. Be friendly to China, have no criminal record, abide by the laws and regulations of China and the rules and regulations of the Host Institution;

3. Be in good physical and mental health, be in good academic and behavioral standing;

4. Be interested in Chinese language education and related work;

5. Be aged between 16 and 35 years on September 1, 2025. The maximum age limit for in-service Chinese teachers may be extended to 45.

II. RECOMMENDING INSTITUTIONS

Confucius Institutes, independent Confucius Classrooms, selected HSK test centers, foreign educational institutions, Chinese language teacher training programs/Chinese departments at foreign universities, professional associations for Chinese language teaching, Chinese embassies (consulates) abroad (hereinafter collectively referred to as Recommending Institutions) may recommend outstanding students and in-service Chinese language teachers to further their studies in international Chinese language education and related programs at Chinese universities (hereinafter referred to as Host Institutions).

III. CATEGORIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

1. Scholarship for One-Year Study Program

The program commences in September 2025, and the scholarship is provided for a maximum of eleven months.

① Applicants of international Chinese language education programs shall have a minimum score of 270 on the HSK test (Level 3), and an HSKK test score is required

② Applicants of Chinese language and literature, Chinese history, or Chinese philosophy programs shall have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK test (Level 4) and 60 on the HSKK test (Intermediate Level).

③ Applicants of Chinese language study programs shall have a minimum score of 210 on the HSK test (Level 3), and priority will be given to applicants who provide an HSKK test score.

2. Scholarship for One-Semester Study Program

The program commences either in September 2025 or March 2026, and the scholarship is provided for a maximum of five months.

① Applicants of international Chinese language education, Chinese language and literature, Chinese history, or Chinese philosophy programs shall have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK test (Level 3), and an HSKK test score is required.

② Applicants of traditional Chinese medicine or Taiji culture programs are required to provide HSK test scores, and priority will be given to those who also provide an HSKK test score.

IV. COVERAGE AND STANDARD

1. The scholarship supports tuition, accommodation, living allowance and comprehensive medical insurance.

2. The living allowance is paid to the scholarship recipients by the Host Institutions on a monthly basis. The monthly allowance for one-year study program students and one-semester study program students is RMB 2,500 per person.

3. During the scholarship period, the school provides a double room dormitory on campus.

V. APPLICATION PROCEDURES

1. Applicants can register on the application website of International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship(http://www.chinese.cn).

2. Submit application materials online.

3. Track the application process.

4. The successful applicant must confirm with the Yanbian University to go through the procedures of studying in China, and register at Yanbian University on the designated date as per the Letter of Admission.

Application Deadlines (Beijing Time)

1. For programs commencing in September, applicants must complete their applications by May 15.

2. For programs commencing in March 2026, applicants must complete their applications by October 31.

VI. LIST OF APPLICATION MATERIALS

1. A scanned copy of the passport photo page.

2. A scanned copy of score reports of the HSK/HSKK tests (within the two-year validity).

3. A reference letter by the head of the Recommending Institution.

4. A certificate of the highest diploma (or proof of expected graduation) and an official transcript.

5. Applicants under the age of 18 must submit the entrustment certificate signed by the guardian in China.

6. In-service Chinese teachers are required to attach a certificate of employment and a letter of recommendation issued by their employers.

7. Non-criminal record report(within the six months validity).

8. Foreigner Physical Examination Form(within the six months validity).

MISCELLANEOUS

1. In principle, the one-semester and one-year study programs are not eligible for applicants who have enjoyed the same scholarship within three years.

2. Please take all original hard copies of application documents when register at school. Admission will be canceled if students can not pass qualification evaluation and physical examination when register at school.
